Yes. Walk-and-stalk, free-roaming game across 24,700 acres. We are PHASA members and Chris Burger sits on the PHASA Executive Committee. No canned or put-and-take hunts.

Cape buffalo (the flagship), kudu, sable, roan, eland, gemsbok, waterbuck, nyala, zebra, wildebeest, impala and the full plains-game spectrum.

If there is a particular animal you wish to hunt, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you. Almost anything is possible.

Absolutely. You'll need a SAPS 520 temporary firearm import permit, issued on arrival at OR Tambo. We send a complete rifle-import pack with your booking confirmation and can arrange a meet-and-assist agent.

Plains-game hunts run 5–7 days. Cape buffalo hunts are 7–10 days. Dangerous game combos (buffalo + sable) run 10–14 days.

Lodge accommodation, all meals, beverages in moderation, your licensed Professional Hunter, tracker, skinner, 4×4 hunting vehicle, JNB/Polokwane transfers, firearm import assistance, field prep and delivery to taxidermist, and all CITES & hunting permits.

Field prep is included. We deliver your trophies to a licensed taxidermist (we recommend African taxidermists). Dip-and-pack, full mounts and shipping to your country are arranged on your behalf.

Yes. Observer rates include lodge access, meals and all eco-tourism activities — game drives, bush walks, sundowners, stargazing.

50% of daily rates due at booking, with 50% of dangerous-game trophy fees due at booking for confirmed quota species. Balance settled 60 days prior to arrival.

Not at all. The reserve hosts hunting and non-hunting guests in separate camps. Eco-tourism guests enjoy game drives, walks, bush dinners and quiet days at the lodge — without ever crossing paths with hunting activity.

Yes. The reserve is certified malaria-free year-round, with no prophylactics required. Children are welcome on game drives, bush walks (age-appropriate) and around the lodges.

Always. Every drive is led by a FGASA-qualified field guide on an open 4×4. We never run more than two vehicles in the field at a time.

Yes. Two-hour escorted bush walks with an armed FGASA-qualified ranger — tracking, plants, geology and the small things you miss from a vehicle.

May to September is dry and cool — excellent game viewing as animals concentrate around water. October to April is green-season: lush Bushveld, newborn game and exceptional birding.

It's a 3.5-hour drive (≈350 km) from OR Tambo International via Thabazimbi to Steenbokpan. Private transfers and charter flights to a nearby airstrip are easily arranged.

Full lodge FAQ

Five lodges, each with its own character: Buffalo Tented Camp (off-grid luxury for couples), Marula Lodge (family-style chalets), Tents on Antwerp (authentic bush camp), Leadwood Lodge (pool-side calm), and Haakdoring Lodge (warm farmhouse for groups). Each can be booked as sole-use.

Lodge accommodation, three meals a day, soft drinks, tea and coffee, two daily activities (game drive or bush walk), and laundry. Premium spirits, transfers and trophy fees are quoted separately.

A 50% deposit secures your booking. Cancellations more than 60 days before arrival are refunded in full less a small admin fee; inside 60 days the deposit is retained.

Yes. All five lodges can be booked exclusively for families, friends or corporate groups. Buffalo Tented Camp is sole-use by default.

Absolutely. Marula Lodge and Haakdoring Lodge are particularly suited to families, with twin and family rooms and lots of safe outdoor space.

Yes. The reserve is in a certified malaria-free zone of the Limpopo Valley — no prophylactics required, safe for young children and pregnant guests.

Yes — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and kosher all catered for with notice.

Yes, in main lodge areas. Reception in chalets and tents is intentionally light — this is the Bushveld.
