Exclusive-Use, Free-Range Safaris

Marula Game is a 24,700-acre family-owned collection of five private farms in the malaria-free Waterberg / Limpopo Valley of South Africa. Every booking is treated as exclusive-use: your party stays in its own private camp, hunts its own private farm, and never shares ground, vehicles, staff or a kitchen with another group. For parties that want the full spread of habitats, species and movement across the whole reserve, we also offer whole-reserve exclusive use — all five farms booked together, every camp reserved for your group. The option that applies to you depends on the species you are after, the size of your party, and the experience you want.

Standard exclusivity: your own farm, your own camp

This is how most Marula safaris run. When you book, you reserve one of our private camps on one of our five farms. That camp is yours for the duration of your safari: one party in the lodge, one Professional Hunter dedicated to your group, and no other hunters on that farm. You never share a track, a waterhole or a sundowner spot with strangers. The pace of the safari is yours to set — hunt hard from dawn to dark, or hunt mornings and spend the afternoons with family on the deck. Your trackers, skinner and staff serve only your party. This is the exclusivity that built our reputation, and it is included in every booking as standard.

Whole-reserve exclusive use: all five farms, all yours

Some parties want the run of the entire 24,700-acre reserve. That might mean a larger group booking every lodge, a film or photographic project, or a hunter who needs the full range of terrain and species to make a complete safari. In these cases we offer whole-reserve exclusive use: all five farms and all camps reserved for your party, with multiple professional hunters and vehicles dedicated to the group. This is available on application and is quoted individually. If your dream is to have the whole of Marula to yourselves, we can make that happen.

Free-range, fair chase — no put-and-take

Marula Game comprises five separate private farms, each a genuine free-range hunting property. Each farm is large enough for game to move, water and forage naturally, and every animal is taken on foot through fair-chase, spot-and-stalk hunting with a licensed PHASA Professional Hunter. Perimeter fencing exists because South African law requires it of all commercial hunting land; internally each farm is open, wild country. No released animals, no small camps, no shortcuts. The same breeding herds of Cape buffalo, sable and roan live across the farms, so the quality you hunt is ours — born and raised on Marula ground.

Luxury lodges & the non-hunting family experience

Four private lodges to choose from — from the classic thatched Marula Lodge to the tented Antwerp Camp under the stars. All are exclusive-use, all include full board, beverages in moderation, and twice-daily activities for non-hunting guests: game drives, bush walks, sundowners on the escarpment, stargazing and the quiet of the Bushveld. Spouses and children are genuinely looked after — most of our returning clients bring their families.

Malaria-free Waterberg / Limpopo Valley

Marula lies in the malaria-free region of Limpopo, in the transition between the Waterberg and the Limpopo Valley. No prophylactics required, safe for children and older guests, and a genuine advantage over safaris further north. Winter days (April–September) are cool, dry and clear — the season most American hunters travel for.

Family-run since 1997

Marula is owned and run by the Burger family. Chris Burger was named WRSA Game Farmer & Game Breeder of the Year and sits on the PHASA Executive Committee; hunts are led by licensed PHASA Professional Hunters. Almost thirty years on the same ground, breeding our own sable and roan, growing our own buffalo herd, and hosting the same American and European clients back season after season. When you enquire, you deal with the family — not an agency.

Exclusive-use safari FAQs

Non-hunting observers from USD $350 per day.

Is the hunting free-range or high-fenced?

Marula Game comprises five separate private farms across 24,700 malaria-free acres in the Waterberg / Limpopo Valley. Each farm is perimeter-fenced to South African law, as all commercial hunting land must be, but internally the farms are genuine free-range country. Game is wild, born on the property, waters and forages naturally, and is taken on foot through fair-chase, spot-and-stalk hunting with a licensed PHASA Professional Hunter. No put-and-take, no released animals, no small camps.

Can non-hunting family members come along?

Yes — and they are genuinely looked after. Exclusive-use means your family or friends have the lodge to themselves, with game drives, bush walks, sundowners, stargazing, spa-quiet afternoons and full board included. Children are welcome. Observer rates from USD $350 per day.

Is Marula malaria-free?

Yes. Marula sits in the malaria-free Waterberg / Limpopo Valley region of South Africa. No prophylactics required, safe for children and older guests, and one of the reasons this corner of Limpopo is the preferred choice for family safaris.
