Private · Free-Range · Family-Run
Marula Game is a 24,700-acre family-owned reserve in the malaria-free Waterberg / Limpopo Valley of South Africa. We take one hunting party at a time. No strangers in camp, no shared vehicles, no shared ground — your party has the lodge, the trackers, the professional hunter and the entire property to yourselves for the duration of your safari.
When you book with us, you book the whole camp. That means one party in the lodge, one Professional Hunter dedicated to your group, and no other hunters on the property. No rotating groups through the kitchen, no unfamiliar rifles on adjacent roads, no scheduling around anyone else. The pace of the safari is yours to set — hunt hard from dawn to dark, or hunt mornings and spend the afternoons with family on the deck. It is your reserve for the week.
24,700 contiguous acres of undivided mixed Bushveld — free-range in every practical sense of the word. Game is wild, born on the property, water and forage naturally, and moves where it chooses. Perimeter fencing exists because South African law requires it of all commercial hunting land; internally the property is one piece of country. Every animal is taken on foot, mature-only, following a genuine stalk with a licensed PHASA Professional Hunter. No released animals, no small camps, no shortcuts.
Four private lodges to choose from — from the classic thatched Marula Lodge to the tented Antwerp Camp under the stars. All are exclusive-use, all include full board, beverages in moderation, and twice-daily activities for non-hunting guests: game drives, bush walks, sundowners on the escarpment, stargazing and the quiet of the Bushveld. Spouses and children are genuinely looked after — most of our returning clients bring their families.
Marula lies in the malaria-free region of Limpopo, in the transition between the Waterberg and the Limpopo Valley. No prophylactics required, safe for children and older guests, and a genuine advantage over safaris further north. Winter days (April–September) are cool, dry and clear — the season most American hunters travel for.

Marula is owned and run by the Burger family. Chris Burger was named WRSA Game Farmer & Game Breeder of the Year and sits on the PHASA Executive Committee; hunts are led by licensed PHASA Professional Hunters. Almost thirty years on the same ground, breeding our own sable and roan, growing our own buffalo herd, and hosting the same American and European clients back season after season. When you enquire, you deal with the family — not an agency.
Exclusive-use safaris start from USD $650 per hunter per day, plus trophy fees. A typical 7-day plains-game safari for two hunters begins around USD $9,100 in daily rates, with trophy fees from USD $450 for impala, USD $2,900 for kudu, USD $5,850 for sable and USD $16,500 for a management Cape buffalo bull. Non-hunting observers are from USD $350 per day, all-inclusive.
24,700 contiguous acres of genuine free-range Bushveld — perimeter-fenced to South African law, as all commercial hunting properties must be, but internally undivided and large enough that game moves, waters and lives entirely wild. No put-and-take, no small camps, no released animals. Every hunt is fair chase on foot with a licensed PHASA Professional Hunter.
Yes — and they are genuinely looked after. Exclusive-use means your family or friends have the lodge to themselves, with game drives, bush walks, sundowners, stargazing, spa-quiet afternoons and full board included. Children are welcome. Observer rates from USD $350 per day.
Yes. Marula sits in the malaria-free Waterberg / Limpopo Valley region of South Africa. No prophylactics required, safe for children and older guests, and one of the reasons this corner of Limpopo is the preferred choice for family safaris.
