Burchell's zebra is one of the most iconic trophies on any African plains-game safari — a striking striped hide that finishes into the finest rug or flat skin, and a wild, wary quarry in its own right. At Marula Game we hunt free-range zebra herds on 24,700 malaria-free acres of Limpopo Bushveld, fair chase on foot with a licensed PHASA Professional Hunter. Trophy fees start at USD $1,250.

Trophy fees are payable only on animals taken (or wounded). Plains-game daily rates from $400–$500 per hunter per day, all-inclusive.
Zebra do not survive by being stupid. A herd on open ground has thirty pairs of eyes and ears, and the lead mare will spin the whole group at the flick of an ivory-white tail. Stalking them takes patience, wind discipline and clean rifle work. What waits at the end is one of the great trophies of the plains — a flawless striped hide that will finish as a rug, wall skin, ottoman or full mount and outlast every other trophy in the room.
Zebra hunting at Marula is spot-and-stalk into small family groups on open feeding areas and around pans. First light usually finds the herd on the move; the PH picks an old stallion or a dry mare and the stalk begins — quartering the wind, using cover, closing to 100–200 metres. Zebra are tough — a stiff spine and a heavy body cavity — and reward a well-constructed premium bullet in .30-06 through .375. Shot placement is tight behind the shoulder, one third up.
The zebra hunt price at Marula is USD $1,250 per animal, taken as part of a wider plains-game safari. Trophy fees are payable only on animals taken (or wounded). Daily rates are two-tier and all-inclusive — plains-game hunts USD $400–$500 per hunter per day from the standard lodges (Tents on Antwerp $400, Leadwood/Haakdoring $450, Marula Lodge $500). Zebra pair naturally with a full plains-game safari alongside kudu, gemsbok, blue wildebeest and waterbuck.

Burchell's zebra make one of the finest rugs and flat skins in African hunting. Our skinners flay the hide carefully in the field and a specialist tannery finishes it as a wall skin, floor rug or full mount — the striped pattern is timeless and each hide is unique.
The South African hunting season runs April to September. Zebra hunt well throughout, but the dry winter months (May–August) concentrate herds around water and thin cover makes stalks easier. Cool mornings also help — zebra hides pull best when the animal is cool.
Yes. Burchell's zebra is not CITES-listed, so import into the United States is straightforward — no CITES permit required, only the standard USFWS 3-177 declaration and a South African export permit. Your dip-and-pack facility handles the paperwork on your behalf.
