Beyond the Hunt — Adventures & Extensions

The hunting is the heart of Marula — but many of our guests travel with non-hunting partners or children, or want to extend their trip either side of their days in the Bushveld. We arrange a full range of adventures and add-ons so your whole party has an unforgettable time, booked and cared for under one roof by the team that has hosted safaris here since 1997.

While you hunt: for families & non-hunters

Malaria-free, close to base, and easy to slot into a hunting week.

Elephant Interaction

Touch and feed free-roaming elephants on an ethical, conservation-focused reserve. Lunch and return transfers from Marula are included.

Pilanesberg Malaria-Free Photo Safari

Open-vehicle game drives through one of South Africa's premier malaria-free national parks — lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and more, all inside a certified malaria-free zone.

Hot-Air-Balloon Safari

A dawn flight drifting over the Bushveld with a champagne breakfast on landing. A once-in-a-lifetime add-on for partners and children.

Cultural & Pottery Workshop

A hands-on afternoon with local artists — throw a pot, learn traditional Tswana and Venda craft, and take home something made by your own hands.

Perfect for the non-hunting side of a malaria-free family hunting safari.

Extend your safari

Add days before or after your hunt — private, guided, and arranged end-to-end by our team.

Private Victoria Falls & Chobe

The thunder of the Falls, big-game drives in Chobe National Park, and a sundowner cruise on the Chobe river with elephants on the bank.

Note: Chobe and the Zambezi are not a malaria-free area — prophylactics recommended.

Victoria Falls & Zambezi Tiger Fishing

See the Falls from both sides and spend two days on the Zambezi chasing tiger fish with an expert guide.

Note: Victoria Falls and the Zambezi are not malaria-free — prophylactics recommended.

Cape Town & Winelands Ocean Adventure

Table Mountain by cable car, penguins at Boulders Beach, Cape Point, the Winelands, and a choice of shark-cage diving or scuba on the Atlantic coast.

Malaria-free.

Kruger Photo Safari

Guided open-vehicle drives inside Kruger National Park with an experienced ranger — Africa's most iconic wildlife destination.

Note: Kruger is not a malaria-free area — prophylactics recommended.

Transfers & day tours

Private airport transfers from Johannesburg (OR Tambo) or Polokwane, helicopter fly-ins direct to the Marula airstrip, and bespoke guided day tours — arranged on request. Tell us who is travelling with you and what they'd love to see, and we'll put together an itinerary built around your party.

Adventures FAQs

Can non-hunting partners and children come to Marula?

Absolutely — this is a huge part of what we do. Marula is malaria-free and family-friendly, and we routinely host non-hunting spouses, children and multi-generational groups. While one member of the party hunts, the rest can take game drives, walk with a tracker, visit elephants, swim at the lodge, or head out on any of the adventures on this page.

Do we book adventures directly, or does Marula arrange everything?

Marula arranges everything under one roof — transfers, permits, guides, accommodation and the activity itself. You deal with one team, get one itinerary, and pay one invoice. It is the same team that has hosted safaris here since 1997.

Which adventures are actually malaria-free?

Everything based at Marula, all of Pilanesberg, and the Cape Town & Winelands extension are inside certified malaria-free zones. Kruger, Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Zambezi are not — we recommend anti-malarial prophylactics for those extensions and are happy to advise on which regime suits your party.

How far in advance should we book an extension?

For Victoria Falls, Chobe, Cape Town and helicopter transfers we recommend confirming at least 3–4 months out, especially for peak season (June–September). Day activities from Marula (elephant interaction, balloon safari, cultural workshops) can usually be arranged with a few days' notice on the ground.
