Red Kalahari sand dunes at dusk with wind-rippled sand and distant salt pans

The Kalahari · Northern Cape · South Africa

A second home in the Kalahari.

Family-run since 1997 — now across two wild places. Beyond our Limpopo Bushveld lies a vast new landscape of red dunes and open plains, malaria-free and unmistakably Marula.

Kalahari hunting safaris in South Africa — a new Marula destination

Our next chapter · Est. 2026

In 2026 the Burger family added a 29,650-acre reserve in the Northern Cape Kalahari to Marula — a second wild place alongside our 24,700-acre home in the Limpopo Bushveld.

The ethic is unchanged: fair chase, strict quotas, real stewardship and a welcome that turns guests into family. What's new is the country itself — endless red dunes, big skies, and free-ranging Kalahari springbok across open plain.

Like Limpopo, the Kalahari is malaria-free, year-round — ideal for first-time African hunters and the families who travel with them.

Why a Kalahari hunting safari

Vast, free-range space

29,650 acres of open Kalahari — room for genuine fair-chase pursuit across dune and plain.

A different hunting landscape

Open sightlines and rolling dunes bring a different rhythm to the hunt, far removed from the dense Limpopo Bushveld.

Red-dune scenery

Big skies and burning-red sand: a landscape every hunter dreams of, and photographers never forget.

Under Kalahari skies

Where you'll stay

A Kalahari camp is part of the reserve's development. Until it opens, combined itineraries are based from our Limpopo lodges, with the same sole-occupancy privacy, full board and Marula table.

Kalahari hunting FAQs

Can I hunt the Kalahari with Marula Game now?

Yes. You can book a free-ranging springbok hunt on our Northern Cape reserve. Contact Chris to discuss your dates and itinerary.

Where is Marula's Kalahari reserve?

It is a newly acquired reserve in the Northern Cape Kalahari, separate from our established 24,700-acre malaria-free Limpopo Bushveld operation near Steenbokpan.

Is the Kalahari malaria-free?

Yes. Like our Limpopo Bushveld, the Northern Cape Kalahari is malaria-free year-round, so no anti-malarials are needed and it suits first-time hunters and travelling families.

Can I combine a Kalahari hunt with a Limpopo safari?

Yes. A combined itinerary gives you two completely different Africas in one trip, from Cape buffalo in the Limpopo Bushveld to free-ranging springbok on the Kalahari dunes, hosted throughout by the Burger family.

What will I eventually be able to hunt in the Kalahari?

The planned line-up includes Kalahari gemsbok, springbok colour variants (black, white, copper), red hartebeest, blue and black wildebeest, eland and kudu. Contact Chris if you would like updates on a particular species.
